LONDON – On the streets of Birmingham, the queen's English is now the queens English.

England's second-largest city has decided to drop apostrophes from all its street signs, saying they're confusing and old-fashioned.

I'm generally in favour of mediaeval re-introductions, but this is just daft. Especially since I doubt that aesc, thorn, and medial gutterals are also part of the deal.

Actually, as I think about it, perhaps somebody should point out to this concilor that "not using apostrophes is simply mediaeval."

If I have his measure aright, he'd turn into an enthusiastic apostrophe supporter immediately. ;-)
