And here's one which showed up on [livejournal.com profile] old_english:

Hey, I was just wondering if any of you guys know how to speak Old English. Is it just different in terms of vocabulary? Or does it have syntax differences too?

Also, are there any websites where I can learn this variant of English?

Granted, I'm hard, and cruel, and think [livejournal.com profile] mctabby's Summary Executions are tremendous entertaining, but really... is it that these people didn't bother to try and figure out what the community was about before posting? Or do they believe Irish-speakers and Old English scholars are fantastic beasts, not real people?

::snicker:: okay, to be fair, the biggest problem these folks have is ignorance (Is it just different in terms of vocabulary? Or does it have syntax differences too?
??????? wtf???)

But an argument could be made that they were at least asking about the right topics.. they weren't asking about Gaelige on the OE community, you gotta give them credit for that..

(I think I'm a hopeless optimist, can you tell? :))

Well, someone has to be :-)
Myself, I tend to be of the "not only is the glass half empty, it's chipped and the water smells funny" persuasion ;-)
